My friend's backup does a sector by sector backup and hence also gets the free space. As he puts it, while they say it is free there is still data out there I might want to recover and use later.
It is much to big for a small boot partition, IMHO. I'm not familiar with "TI," e. The only TI I'm familiar with is Texas Instruments, as I bought several of their calculators when in college and they were my first job out of college. As for the support request, ah, it's not my machine and my purpose was to sell my friend on getting his own copy of DD. I have just downloaded and installed Disk Director Home Update 2. I tried to resize a partition in Drive C: to increase size and taking from other partitions. The risize doesn't work, I got the log entry:. Also, it's recommended to create an Entire Disk Image backup before making partitioning changes.
I also recommend doing multiple resize steps one step at a time instead of letting DD automate them. I'm having the exact same issue and it fails both via Windows and from the boot media created by update 2.
Is there unallocated space next to the partition or are you having DD take free space from another partition? As we understand it, Seagate commissioned -- you got it -- Acronis to write the application.
I'm mentioning this because the Seagate application has trouble with the drive, too!! It will backup the C partition, but won't touch anything else including the MBR, etc. Just a thought Seagate says they're going to look into the issue, but whether they contact Acronis or not and whether this helps out DD, I don't know. Having the same problem.
